Wang Yidong was born in 1955 in Linyi, Shandong Province. He graduated from the Shandong Arts School in 1975, and received his bachelor degree from the Oil Painting Department of the Central Arts Institute of China. He is now a teacher at the Oil-painting Program in the same school. and a member of the Chinese Artists Association.

His works were on view at the 16th World Arts Festival in France (1984), the Sixth Asian Arts Exhibition in Japan (1984), the Sixth National Arts Exhibition of China in Beijing (1984), the Initial International Painting(1986), the Contemporary Chinese Oil Painting Exhibition in New York (1987), the Chinese Realist Oil Painters Exhibition in California (1987), the Figurative Oil Painting Exhibition in Beijing (1988), the World Gallery Invitational Exhibition in Chicago (1990), the Oil Painting and Sculpture Exhibition of the Central Arts Academy of China in Singapore (1990).
