Huang Yongyu
was born in 1924 in Fenghuang, Hunan Province. He quit the
junior middle school at the end of his second year there.
Starting from the age of 16, he earned a living by painting
and wood engraving. He had been a worker in a porcelain
factory, an elementary school teacher, a middle school teacher,
an art member of the troupe, an editor in a newspaper office,
a film screenwriter and a professor at the fine arts academy.
He likes writing poems, essays, novels and screenplays.
He has published picture albums, collections of poems and
essays and albums of wood engravings. His solo shows have
once been on view in China, Hong Kong, Australia, Germany
and Italy.
