32
appeal for investigation on corruption
Cultural Times
An
appeal signed by 32 experts and scholars from the China
Research Institute of Arts, "strongly request the discharge
of Deng Fuxing from the post of director," A report
on the corruption of Deng Fuxing, was submitted to the
Ministry of Culture, the Central Discipline Inspection
Commission and the State Council. The letter calls for
the investigation and punishment of the academic, economic
and personnel corruption that has happened for a long
time in the Fine Arts Institute of the China Research
Institute of Arts. This is to rescue the Institute and
rebuild the dignity of scholarship.
Around
one million RMB has gone missing during Deng's term of
office. A name list is provided in the appeal when it
touches upon corruption in personnel issues.
Reporters
interviewed the persons concerned accordingly. It is reported
that as early as eight years ago, 39 research fellows
in the Fine Arts Institute used to report the problems
of administration to the higher authorities. However,
the authorities of the Institute ignored the voice of
the masses. In the following years, financial administration
turned to chaos in the Institute and posts were given
out on the grounds of personal favour, while people with
different views and also some capable research fellows
were overlooked. The academic dignity of the national
research institute was lost due to the lack of administration.
A
lot of people showed their indignation towards the existing
problems. However, some people dared not say anything
they felll furious, for fear of revenge. The ex-director
of the Institute office was removed from office in the
name of violating organizational discipline after he reported
the serious economic problems of the Institute.
Comments:
How
sad and detestable that such an important academic society
is controlled by fellows lacking virtue and ability. Supposing
that there will be no positive outcome from the event,
the Fine Arts Institute is sure to be a worthless place
in the eyes of people from the arts circle.
