Bu, born in 1959 in Chengdu, Sichuan, now lives in the city as an artist, critic and curator. He graduated from the Beijing-based Institute of International Relations. Bu serves as a vice president of the China Society of Modern Calligraphic Arts and director of its organizing commission. In recent years, he has been noted for promoting modern calligraphy through organizational work. An organizer of several important activities in modern calligraphy, he has also exhibited his works in major modern calligraphy shows in China. He is the author of a book on modern calligraphy, which presents an overall view of this circle. Bu also published numerous articles on modern calligraphy.
