Born in 1952
in Heilong, Xu graduated from the art department of Harbin Normal University
in 1976 and later studied at the Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts and the Central
Academy of Fine Arts. He is now a professional painter at the Yichun Painting
Institute of Heilongjiang Province. Xu also serves as a board member of the
China Society of Modern Calligraphic Arts and vice-chairman of the Yichun
Artists' Association and the Yichun Calligraphers' Association. He has held
several solo calligraphy and painting shows in China and Japan besides attending
major group exhibits of modern calligraphy in China in recent years. He has
published an album of his own calligraphy.
